this place evokes emotions that can only be experienced here and now.
When I first visited the site of 'Chobo no Ie (House with a View),' I was struck by its beautiful landscape, reminiscent of an idyllic paradise. There, alongside grand nature, was a story of how people have cared for and preserved this environment. I aimed to enhance this unique landscape and, by incorporating the craftsmanship of top artisans, to create a house akin to a one-of-a-kind piece of art. To realize this vision, we welcomed the master bricklayer,
Takayama Toshihiko, and assembled a team of professionals to bring the "Chobo no Ie"
to life. My initial focus was on refining the architectural skeleton, creating a seamless integration between the house’s interior and the surrounding environment.

The materials that form this house are selected for their capacity to age gracefully, their surfaces deepening in texture and shaded nuances over time. These select, authentic materials, cultivated from nature, infuse the house with a warmth akin to being enveloped by nature, stimulating the senses of those who reside within.
By designing diverse spaces within the house,
I aimed to create environments that allow residents to choose their preferred ways to spend time and gather. Each choice offers different perspectives on the views
to the outside nature, continuously capturing
the varying beauties of the landscape, leading to a series of profound emotional experiences. I hope that those who dwell in this beautiful land will layer their own cherished memories upon its landscapes.

Learn moreUpon walls of artfully stacked bricks,
nature etches the delicate traces of time.
Bricks, one of the world's oldest construction materials, have been used by human for thousands of years.
The method of making bricks has largely remained unchanged until now.
By compacting earth and innovating with the blend of iron and the firing process,
each brick is imbued with unique hues and textures. Bricks are a fusion of nature's gifts and human endeavor. Traditionally used as structural elements, today they also enhance the longevity of buildings, continuing to exist alongside humanity through generations. At 'Chobo no Ie,' our work began by selecting brick colors and textures that harmonize with the surrounding natural beauty. When laying the bricks, we first arrange them all to see how they fit with the environment, adjusting the colors and the texture of the joints for perfect integration.

Our job as bricklayers is to breathe soul into architecture and interiors, engaging with each brick intimately. As bricks become part of the building, they start to weave new stories. Bricks are 'breathing' materials with moisture-regulating properties that mature over time. Traces created by nature, such as rain and wind, are etched upon the bricks as if painting upon a canvas. As you enjoy the designs nature creates, we hope you will also inscribe your family's new history on the stacked bricks.

President and Representative Director
Ozawa Hitoshi
From conception to design, construction, and sales,
we propose houses rooted in the community.
ForestCorporation, founded in Inadani of Shinshu, is a housing company celebrating its 65th anniversary next year. With the theme of "Creating Shinshu's Living Culture," we pursue housebuilding that harmonizes with local climate and landscape of Shinshu. In our custom-made house division, "Kobo Shinshu no Ie,"
we specialize in constructing houses using timber sourced from Nagano Prefecture. Annually crafting 100 houses and a cumulative total of 1,500 within Nagano Prefecture, we proudly stand as the unrivaled leader in the construction of houses using Nagano Prefecture timber,
both within the prefecture and across the nation.
Creating the comfort of being surrounded by natural wood,
as if dwelling within a forest.
Our approach to housebuilding exclusively uses domestically sourced timber, 85% of which comes from Nagano Prefecture, embodying our commitment to 'building houses with local wood.' Utilizing timber from the region not only helps maintain local forests but also continues to protect the surrounding environment. We believe that for residents to live long and prosperously on this land, nurturing the local natural environment is crucial. This philosophy has guided
our efforts to create houses that encourage sustainable local activities. Twenty-five years ago, when we began this initiative, most of the wood used in construction was imported.

We changed this by developing a network with local foresters and lumber dealers, and now we build all 100 of our annual houses entirely with local wood.
These houses are crafted from carefully selected materials that have grown on this land, finished by the skilled hands of local artisans. Through our careful building process, infused with the dedication of everyone involved, we aspire for those who dwell in these houses to cherish this land and enjoy their lives, in a way only possible right here.
Creating Gardens that Harmonize with Nature
In moments where the living essence of nature intersects with human heart and time,
A garden filled with warmth and comfort allows one to return to their true self.
Yamada Yutaro Landscape Architect
As a landscape architect, Yamada has been involved in the design and construction of gardens for private residences, hotels, inns, and commercial spaces. His concept of garden creation is to build gardens that preserve and nurture spaces inspired by the unique climate and culture of the land, where the energy of the land itself is brought to life. He strives to create landscapes that convey the warmth of human touch, and places where one can experience the beauty and spirit of nature. This approach guides him in crafting gardens that reflect and enhance these elements, allowing them to be appreciated and cherished over time.
Learn moreLiving in Harmony with Nature through the Garden,
Embracing this garden as a living stage for the beauty of nature.
As landscape architect, we have traditionally crafted spaces using plants as the living essence and stones drawn from the earth, uniting human life with nature through the art of the garden.
By placing stones with care, we invoke a timeless sense of nature that has long been rooted in human consciousness, bringing a quiet, profound beauty to the space. The stone walls, meticulously constructed one by one, gracefully delineate the space, fostering a sense of comfort and relaxation within the garden's embrace. Our work is to perceive the garden and the building as a single harmonious entity, creating a place where people can naturally reconnect with nature.

At House with a View, we envisioned the garden as a bridge between the land of Karuizawa and its people, cultivating a space where plants can flourish and thrive. Over time, the garden merges with the surrounding land, gradually embodying the character of its native landscape. The trees planted here return to the natural world, blending seamlessly with the surrounding forest.
In this garden, the seasons unfold in gentle splendor. In spring, cherry blossom petals dance through the air; in early summer, the young green of maple leaves, the golden glow of Kerria flowers, and the blue-green hues of bamboo grass paint a vivid scene. Summer brings cool, refreshing air that sweeps across the forest floor, while autumn sets the leaves ablaze with fiery colors beneath the radiant harvest moon, which appears to float as if nestled between the treetops. In winter, the outdoor air is crisp and bracing, yet upon returning indoors, one is embraced by the soothing warmth around the hearth—a comforting contrast that invites relaxation. Thus, the cycles of the seasons gently transition, each bringing its own beauty and tranquility.Through this garden, I hope that those who live in this house will dwell in harmony with the land’s natural beauty, enjoying the changing seasons and the subtle charm each one brings. May this garden serve as a living stage upon which you can appreciate and celebrate the beauty of every season.
